The magnetic North Pole is on the move again-and it’s happening faster than ever before. Scientists from NOAA and the British Geological Survey have just released the updated World Magnetic Model (WMM), recalibrating where compasses and navigation systems point to magnetic north. While the geographic North Pole stays fixed, the magnetic North Pole-where Earth’s magnetic field points straight down-shifts due to the swirling motion of molten iron and nickel deep within our planet.
